WILLIAMSON COUNTY DONATES $45,000 TO HUTTO EDUCATION FOUNDATION

Landfill Contract with Waste Management Created Fund for Supporting Hutto

May 11, 2010 (Williamson County, TX) – Williamson County Commissioners Court approved a motion to distribute $45,000 in funds to the Hutto Education Foundation.  Commissioner Ron Morrison, Precinct 4, made the motion to donate $22,500 to help create an endowment to provide a perpetual source of funds for the Hutto Education Foundation and another $22,500 to support long-term academic performance goals for the Hutto Independent School District.

The endowment fund will be used to offer scholarships to students.  Hutto Education Foundation will give approximately $19,360 to Hutto ISD for the purchase and ongoing maintenance of special software with the remaining funds for operating expenses.  The software is designed to help Hutto ISD teachers and administrators better collect and analyze pertinent student academic data, analyze TAKS results for each student or for their classrooms or campus, develop easy-to-administer benchmark tests, and build personal student learning plans designed to improve overall learning and graduation rates.

Williamson County’s contract with Waste Management established four new community funds from landfill collection fees, including a fund for Hutto ISD and the City of Hutto.  The Williamson County Commissioners approved funding this donation to the Hutto Education Foundation with fees collected from Waste Management.

“The long-term academic success of Hutto students is a key priority for the County,” says Morrison.  “Giving our teachers and administrators the tools they need to track and manage each student’s academic performance is the foundation for helping ensure our children are successful.”

Waste Management also recognized the importance of supporting the Hutto Independent School District.

“Waste Management has been providing financial support to Hutto non-profits since 2008, including many school programs that serve Hutto children and their families,” says Steve Jacobs, South Texas Landfill Operations Manager.  “Since establishing its Good Neighbor program, Waste Management has donated more than $44,000 in grants to local non-profits in the areas of education, environment and community vitality.”
